Coffee & Heroes Begins....

So we are now 2 months into our little venture and we would like to send out a sincere thanks to every single customer who has walked through the door.

We came up with the idea for Coffee & Heroes a few years ago, and it has been a long, hard road to getting those doors open for the first time.  There's been sacrifices (a CGC 9.6 copy of The Walking Dead was sold to raise funds...), a lot of hard work, a lot of sorting through comics (around 15,000 individual titles in all) and a lot of passion put into the final product.

And now we're here - Unit 16, Smithfield Market, BT1 1JE.

The idea itself grew out of our own passion for comic books.  Every week we would rock up to Forbidden Planet on a Wednesday (or New Comic Book Day as it has become to be known), grab our pull list of new releases and then head to Starbucks for a coffee to start reading through them.  We always thought it would be a great idea to combine the two.  Grab your comics, and then sit down with a nice cup of joe in an environment set up specifically for those who love the medium.  The seed for an idea was growing...

But aren't comics hard to get into?

We want to be a resource for those who are new to comics.  Maybe you've enjoyed the recent influx of comic book movies and are looking for some further reading, or to find the story that inspired the movie?  We are here to help.  We are here to share our knowledge of the comic book industry and to try and ease people into comics.  It's not an exclusive club.  You don't need to know 80 years of history or be able to recite secondary and tertiary characters from Fantastic Four #145.

Just like the movie industry, or prose novels, there is something for everyone.  It can be a momentarily distracting or all encompassing pursuit.  There's as much depth as you want there to be.  If you just enjoy a good story, there are so many out there just waiting to be discovered.  Whether it be Science Fiction, Noir, Horror or Suspense, we can find a title for you.  It isn't just all Men and Women in tights fighting each other and saving the world.  But if that's what you enjoy then we've also got you covered, with a collection of back issues going back to the 1960's and onwards.

We also stock the weekly releases, and if you never want to miss an issue, you can set up a pull list with us.  We will ensure the title is ordered, bag and board it when it arrives, and it will be kept behind the counter until you pick it up at your convenience.

Above all, what we want to do is create a community and a place for comic book fans to come to, whether it be for a chat and a conversation about who would win in a fight between Batman or Spider-Man (Batman all day long...), or to pick up an issue and enjoy it with a cup of coffee on the side, and forget the world for 15 minutes because you are engrossed in another.

We want the store to be somewhere you look forward to coming to, not always sure what you are looking for, with bays of comics to flick through.
